About Me

Hello! My name is Katy Hutchings, MM, MA, MT-BC. I am a board certified music therapist, adventuring in the world of early childhood care, learning the language of two year olds, and singing as much as possible. Having recently received my Masters in Music Therapy and Counseling from Drexel University, I now work full time at Young Children’s Center for the Arts in South Philadelphia. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, I came to the East Coast to attend Haverford College and then received my first Masters in Voice Performance at Temple University. Before pursuing a career in music therapy, I worked with children for over ten years in the greater Philadelphia area, teaching voice lessons, directing children’s choirs, and leading musical theater classes, all while trying to make a career as a professional classical singer. Luckily I realized being an opera singer was not the career for me so I decided to go back to school and study music therapy.  I still sing professionally (and most importantly for fun), mostly as the soprano section leader at Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr, PA, a professional caroler during the holidays, and when I’m lucky, an actress in local musical theater productions in the Greater Philadelphia Area.
